For many of us, there is nothing better than being in total control on our holiday and this means that we decide where to go and when. No scheduled tour busses, no overrated tourist destinations and no time restrictions.
With that in mind, it really is no wonder that more and more of us are taking matters into our own hands and opting for a road trip holiday. Heading for parts of the world where even road marking companies have not yet ventured into.
So for those of you that like to see parts of the world other than what is thrust in front of us by travel agencies, take a look at a few of my suggestions for a nature filled road trip. By the time you have finished reading this, the car will be packed in no more than a little under an hour, I can assure you.
Bit of Caravanning in New Zealand
Many of you will already know that New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries on earth. It harbours a small population, yet has a huge amount of glorious countryside, which makes this one of the best places to take a car and caravan and travel around.
In fact, you can actually camp anywhere you like in the country, with the only requirement being that you have a toilet on board.
How About the Mountains of Oregon
If you want to have a taste of America that isn’t one of the more common tourist locations like New York or San Francisco, how about hitting Oregon? You could drive through the state visiting Mount Hood, take in the nature whilst driving to the city of Portland whilst meeting many of the very friendly locals.
Restricted to the UK could mean trying Cornwall
Another great thing about road trips is that they can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want. If you want a cheap road trip, you can take advantage of some of the more beautiful locations in Britain.
Cornwall is certainly one of those, with it jammed full of plenty of sublime nature. Just work your way around the county in a clockwise direction from Penzance and you have the makings for an excellent low cost holiday.
If you have a Soft Spot for Scenic Coastlines then the Amalfi Coast is for you
If you want Mediterranean weather as part of your road trip, as well as the gorgeous back drop of a coastal paradise then the Amalfi Coast is your perfect location. The Amalfi coast is one of the most beautiful places in Italy, with it being full of history, winding roads and nature that is second to none.
I would offer a slight word of warning though; the roads can be very narrow in spots, which can make for quite a challenging drive.
A French Excursion
Just across the water we have options too, with Provence in France being an excellent choice for all of you road trippers out there. The place is full of artisan shops that will embody the local culture, with goods from local cuisine to regional fabrics, whilst there are markets in almost any small village that you drive through.
Just take the back roads from Avignon and drive in a 360km circle to get the most out of the most glorious countryside in France.
Well that is it for my personal guide on what are the best road trips that you can take if you like to immerse yourself in nature, I hope you found something that has got you licking your lips in anticipation of your next road trip holiday.
Nick Thorping is a writer who has always dreamed of taking his work on the road with him on a road trip. He would love to stray from the more common holiday destinations and go where the Road Marking Companies have yet to dare.
