I’ve got a real passion for the finer things in life – designer clothes, luxury cars, gourmet cuisine, you name it, I do it. Of course, I love jetsetting on holiday to glamorous destinations too, but if you’re like me you’ll need to think carefully about your transportation needs.
OK, so it’s probably not the most exciting bit about planning a luxury break – if I’m going to New York, I know I would much prefer to focus on which of Manhattan’s designer boutiques I want to shop at – but I think it’s one of the most important. After all, a chic holiday ought to extend to allaspects of your travel, from the minute you leave home until you get back.
One thing I cannot stress enough that you do is to book a first or business-class flight. While there’s nothing wrong with flying economy per se, upgrading to a better standard of travel means you will be able to relax properly and get into that holiday frame of mind much quicker. Depending on the particular flight and airline you travel with, you could have a fully-reclining seat and sip on complimentary champagne. If you’re going to a long-haul destination like Sydney, Cape Town or Hong Kong, you’ll really appreciate the additional legroom this travel option provides.
Your choice of flight isn’t the only thing you have to consider when it comes to travelling in style though. After all, once your flight has touched down you’ll need to think about how you’re going to get from the arrivals lounge to your hotel, villa or apartment. So, what are your options? Many holidaymakers will take their chances with getting one of those taxis that are parked outside an airport, but you might have to wait a while for a free cab and they are sometimes ridiculously expensive.
If you’re looking to get to your accommodation in a truly stylish way, I advise you book a private transfer in advance. Doing this means you don’t have to worry about joining a queue for a taxi (which can be pretty disheartening if you’ve been on a long flight) so there should not be any delays in reaching your hotel or when your break can start in earnest. Instead, you can hop into a chauffeur-driven vehicle that will whisk you to your destination straightaway.
Another good thing that comes with arranging a private airport transfer to your hotel is that it affords you an element of privacy that you just won’t get when using public transport. I know it sounds obvious, but if you’re getting a train, tram or bus to your hotel you’ll be sharing space with fellow travellers, so you might have a fight on your hands to get a seat and find free storage facilities for your bags. Booking a transfer really is a wise decision, as you’ll have all the space you need to relax.
Although you could always book a minibus or a standard car, when it comes to travelling in style there really is nothing that can top a limousine. These offer plenty of room to stretch out in and, as you make your way to your hotel, they are sure to catch the eye of passersby. You could also travel by helicopter or water taxi – I find the latter’s particularly useful if I’m going on holiday to Venice – so there’s plenty of choice to pick the luxury travel option that’s right for you.
